National Policy Committee on Health and Reflexology

NFWL National Policy Committee on Health & Empowerment Resolution: Encouraging the use of Reflexology as one approach for women’s health care and wellness issues, in conjunction with the support the Committee has previously shown for a holistic, comprehensive, and patient-centered approach to care. (Ratified November 2012)

WHEREAS, Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary discipline involving the use of alternating pressure applied to the reflexes within the reflex maps of the body located on the feet, hands and outer ears; and

WHEREAS, the art and science of Reflexology is based on the work of three 20th century medical doctors: William FitzGerald, M.D. (USA); Joe Shelby Riley, M.D. (USA); and Paul Nogier, M.D. (France); and physio-therapist Eunice Ingham (USA); and

WHEREAS, Reflexology is recognized by many state governments as being separate from the profession of massage therapy or any other type of licensed Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) profession; and

WHEREAS, Reflexology distinguishes itself from other disciplines in that training is conducted through separate and unique educational programs; Reflexologists use distinctive Reflexology charts or maps, and clients remain clothed during a session; and

WHEREAS, the efficacy of Reflexology is documented by over 300 global research studies including a 3.1 million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NIH-NCCAM) to study the effects of Reflexology on women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy and is being considered for renewal; and

WHEREAS, the efficacy of Reflexology is documented by over 300 global research studies including a 3.1 million dollar 5 year grant in 2005 from the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute (NIH- NCI) to study the effects of Reflexology on women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy, which was renewed for 2.9 million in 2011 for a second 5 year study; and

WHEREAS, anecdotally and with one Israeli study (1997) Reflexology has been shown to have a positive effect on post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from military service and other traumatic situation such as spousal abuse or acute and chronic physical conditions; and

WHEREAS, frequently reported benefits by clients include stress reduction, relaxation, pain management, health enhancement, and improved quality of life; and

WHEREAS, many members of the National Foundation for Women Legislators have personally experienced the benefits of Reflexology through participation in NFWL’s Annual Health Fair Day; now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the National Foundation for Women Legislators’ National Policy Committee on Health & Empowerment joins the state and national organizations in encouraging the use of Reflexology as one approach for women’s health care and wellness issues, in conjunction with the support the Committee has previously shown for a holistic, comprehensive, and patient-centered approach to care.

2013 New Year's Resolution

What is your New Year's Resolution? If you seek better health, I would encourage you to schedule a Health History Session with me. It is a 50 minute consult that we would have together to see what your goals and direction is and will be and to see if we would want to put together a 6 month session to help you reach your goals. That 6 month program is 2 - 50 minute sessions a month for 6 months. I will have health gifts for your and sample foods to help you in addition to the coaching. Is this something that you might consider to gain health in 2013? This is not a program where you need to be in the same location I am. You can live anywhere around the world and do this program with me. I have openings for individual or groups for the 6 month programs beginning February. We would schedule your FREE Health History session in January or February. If you have a group of people for a group session, the cost for each person goes down considerably. Groups can be 5-9 people (20% off), 10-14 people (25% off), 15-19 people (30% off). Make your 2013 a Healthy Year!!

It's That Time of Year

Komucha Tea -

My first recipe of Kombucha Tea was from a starter pack that I bought on a late night run to Whole Foods.  And there I found a KT Starter kit from OK Oregon Kombucha.  The tea was Coconut Green Tea.  WOW WOW WOW!!!  WHAT a WONDERFUL flavor.  Well I haven't had that blend since but had my SCOBY Hotel with that tea, and the SCOBY in there was in that tea. 

About 2 weeks ago I started an extra gallon of KT and used about 2 cups from the SCOBY Hotel and a SCOBY from there and another blend of loose tea. 

THERE IT WAS AGAIN... that wonderful taste of that Coconut Green Tea from my first batch.  Just a hint of it.  BUT oh my, such a wonderful hint.  So I got on to http://oregonkombucha.com and ordered some Coconut Green Tea.  I can hardly wait for it to arrive to start a batch of it.  Because OK Oregon Kombucha is only about 20 miles from me, it should be here in 2 days... 

I had a couple of questions so called in and got a call back from the owner Phyllis Abbot and she was very helpful and totally understood my love for that tea. 

Even if you are not making Kombucha, take time to order that tea from them.  Especially if you are a tea lover!  Or maybe you want to buy some for Christmas for someone who loves tea.  WONDERFUL tea, and a Wonderful company to purchase from.  Each bag makes a gallon of tea.
